eBay – no feedback for buyers anymore – sellers left out of the loop!

Welcome back!

This is a detriment to the ebay system for a couple of reasons: firstly, buyers can be bad eggs too. I have sold quite a bit on eBay and have had bad buyers: now sellers will not be able to check out their buyers and ascertain with what they are dealing. Secondly, most people buy a few things in order to get feedback on eBay: now they will no longer get any feedback. So if a buyers decides to start selling, they will not have any feedback whatsoever to show them as a good egg on eBay. This is not the solution for eBay: it’s a band-aid on a problem that should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but eBay doesn’t want to take the time (or money for the employees) to manage their own business.

eBay sellers to be banned from criticizing buyers

In a move to curtail retaliation by vengeful sellers in its feedback system, eBay plans to prohibit sellers from posting negative feedback about their customers.

Beginning in May, sellers will not be able to leave negative or even neutral comments about their customers, only positive feedback, said spokesman Usher Lieberman.

Sellers are crying foul, saying the policy change isn’t fair.

But Lieberman says some sellers have been abusing the system, retaliating against customers who leave them negative feedback. And that has left many buyers afraid to leave honest comments, or even use the site, period, he says.

“The No. 1 reason buyers cited for decreasing or ceasing their activity on eBay was negative unwarranted retaliatory feedback they received from sellers,” Lieberman says. “There has been a four-fold increase in this over the last several years. It’s cited as a bigger problem than even not receiving shipment.”

Meanwhile, eBay is offering more solutions to protect sellers when customers don’t pay.

The move is the latest in a series of changes that involves how search results on the site will be displayed and recently announced fees for listing items.

For the record, I have nothing but good things to say about the person I bought a white embroidered linen shower curtain from last month on eBay.

Yes, hell hath frozen over – eBay lowers selling fees

We used to be avid sellers on eBay, until fees got so high and customer service so poor that we stopped. Will this reduction in fees entice us to return? I don’t know – maybe once we get completely settled from the move.

Edit PDF’s rudimentarily in OOo

OpenOffice 3 = Free PDF Editor + Acrobat Writer

Though you write PDF documents without Adobe Acrobat, there aren’t many choices for editing PDF files. Most PDF editors are either commercial or offer very limited functionality.

All this is expected to change when Sun releases OpenOffice 3 in the
next few months as it includes native PDF import and export features.
See the slide above.

You will be able import PDF files into Draw (PowerPoint), perform
the edits and then export them as hybrid PDFs meaning you can edit the
PDF files back again in OpenOffice.

OpenOffice 3 will be available on Windows and Mac. It may not have
all the PDF editing features of Acrobat but may still satisfy the needs
of most users who only require basic editing.
