Office Productivity: My 20 Steps to Improve Your Productivity – Avoid Sugary Snacks

Welcome back!

No, I am not trying to imitate your mother! But Mom’s sage advice is usually correct.

When you intake a large amount of sugar, your body raises up and rides that “high” wave of sugar. The body uses it in it’s muscles and it gets burned pretty quick. Once it does, the body comes crashing down to earth again, only to be left with more fatigue previous to the sugary snack.

If you want to give yourself a boost (or boosts) throughout the day, eat protein snacks. The protein feeds the body longer than sugar and can level out the insulin levels in the body so that you do not experience the “highs” and “lows”. Another snack to watch out for are snack high in carbohydrates. Carbs turn into sugar, which starts the vicious sugar cycle all over again.

Veggies are a great option for snacks throughout the day. A lot of them are portable, once they are cut up (carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers) and not only do they provide protein, but they are a much more natural way to get the body pumping.

Peanut butter is a great source of protein as well, but due to the recent salmonella outbreak, one has to be very careful when choosing a brand. More healthy alternatives are almond butter, sunflower butter and other nut butters. If’ you’ve not tried of varieties of butters, I suggest that you give them a go! They really are quite tasty and some are healthier than peanut butter.

What are you favorite snacks during the day? Have you noticed any adverse effects form the? Tell me in the comments!

GTD Mastery 100: Part XXI – Trusting, Committing and Anxiety

GTDMastery100 61. When I put something into my inbox, I completely trust that it will get done…or I know why it’s not getting done and am comfortable with it.
This is one of the great things about the GTD methodology: if you use the system right, things that you put in your inbox will get done. I typically do those just previous to my Weekly Review so that I can see just exactly what I’ve accomplished from my inbox, and what needs to be put back in again for the following week.

62. When I commit to doing something for someone, I completely trust that I will do it…or I’ll let them know ahead of time why I can’t complete it.
I’ve written several articles about commitment and honoring what you tell people that you are going to do. I’ve made no secret that it is a BIG pet peeve of mine when people and corporations do not hold fast to what they tell me. So I would guess that my answer would come as no surprise.

I will always hold fast to what I tell someone. and if I am unable to hold up to my end of the commitment, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will tell you just as soon as I know. You can really make someone’s life very difficult by not sticking to your word.

63. That low-level anxiety I used to feel around my “stuff” and my work is completely gone.
I wouldn’t say that it’s completely gone, but I will say that it has lessened a great deal. Some of the minuscule details may fall by the wayside, but I’m proud to say that I am much more comfortable with my system than I was a year ago.

Tell me: how are you on trusting, committing and anxiety? Let me know in the comments!
