Personal Productivity: Trusting Yourself & Your New System

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have seen it happen more than once: you’ve been in such an unorganized state of chaos that once you start to get organized, you have a hard time trusting yourself again.

Do you find this to be true?

When you’ve come from a state of total disorganization, you’ve learned not to trust yourself. You haven’t had a system that has ever worked for you, because you’ve still forgotten things or felt that you haven’t lived up to your expectations of yourself. When you don’t trust yourself, you have a very hard time being able to trust others to be able to Get Things Done for you and be productive for you. Disorganization can truly have rippling effects all throughout your life, both personal and business. It really is amazing how far the effects can be seen.

09 nail-biter Once you start to turn your life around, either by yourself or with someone’s assistance,  it is amazingly transformative how much of a far-reaching effect there is on your entire life. It can be very hard to get organized, especially on your own. It usually takes a catalyst like a book you’ve read or speaking to friends. For others it takes one on one training and coaching in order to be able to take the baby steps with confidence. Once you’ve been in a state of distrust for so long, it can be very hard to step out on your own because you have a hard time trusting yourself to be able to accomplish tasks and get organized.

Once you are on your path to recovering from being disorganized, I have seen people forget to trust themselves to be able to Get Things Done and get a great deal of productivity out of their lives.it can be a difficult change to get accustomed to once you’ve not trusted yourself for such a long period of time. It is completely normal to forget to trust yourself on the beginning of your organization and productivity journey, but once you get fully into the swing of things, you will see that your ability to trust yourself will slowly be restored. This is not a process that will occur overnight: try to remember how long you’ve been unorganized and then realize that it will take so time to get your trust of yourself and your systems into your routine.

It can be done, and the rewards are more fulfilling than can be described. Once you’ve been on your path, how long has it taken you to trust yourself and your system?

Personal Productivity: Don’t Put Things into a Box

Recently I’ve become aware of the fact that sometimes people have a tendency to put things in boxes when they don’t need to be in boxes. While it can be very good and efficient to organize things and categorize them so that you know how to access them there some things in life in which you should not categorize in place in boxes. I’m not talking so much about physical tactile things like paper or CDs or books, but I’m talking more about things that you need to survive in life. Like other peoples feelings, how you feel about things and opening your mind to new horizons.

Let’s take an example: interacting with people in your life. When you interact with people in your life. It is good to experience them for who they are and not have preconceived notions about who you want them to be when you meet people for the first time. It is difficult not to make judgments about them aka making a first impression feelings. That’s not uncommon, what is a bad thing to do is to meet a person and automatically expect them to fit some sort of profile that you created in your head in which you think they must fit.

You may think that you need to meet a certain type of person in order to have a good solid friendship with them, when the fact remains that there may be people that you wouldn’t even dream of fitting into your box that will actually be very compatible with you and you will be very compatible with them.

people-per-week  I’ve known some people throughout my life that have the notion stuck in their head that they must have this, this and this in a person in order for them to be compatible, and to be able to have a very successful life or successful friendship together.

I can attest to the fact that meeting people that are outside your box is a great thing to do because you just never know who you may meet. My SO is not a person that I would have gone hunting for: but we are compatible and have a very successful relationship. Granted that we are not alike in many ways, but we do share common interests, enjoy each other’s company and have the same drive and desires in life. Had I kept my focus on someone that was to fit inside my box. I would’ve never found this person for several reasons. One reason being that I would’ve never looked for this person where they were found. Second reason being that it is possible I would not have even engaged in a conversation.

Please try to remember throughout your life to keep your options open: do not put yourself in a box or feel that they are certain things in your life that must fit within a box. You will limit your availability to meeting people and experiencing new things in life. We all know that when you experience things in life you grow as a person and without growth, life is meaningless.

So tell me… what have you done in your life that has been outside the box. And what have the results been? I would really like to know. So please tell me in the comments.

Proud to be an America? You won’t be.

I don’t know if any of my readers have heard of Michael Moore. You might now him from the movie Fahrenheit 9/11, which discussed the controversy and thoughts surrounding the 9/11 attack on the USA.

He has another movie out and if you live on America, you should see it. If you don’t live in America, you should thank god for where you live.

sicko-3

There is a health care crisis in the United States. We are robbed by our insurance companies and it’s not uncommon for people without insurance to be turned away when seeking medical attention in the US. This movie goes into detail about the USA health care crisis and the alarming death rate of US citizens when compared to the rest of the world. Even the people that have risked their lives to save others get refused healthcare. Our healthcare system is the most crooked in the world.

The US ranks 37th in quality of health care, just above Slovenia. Here is the list of all the countries that rank better than we do:

1 France
2 Italy
3 San Marino
4 Andorra
5 Malta
6 Singapore
7 Spain
8 Oman
9 Austria
10 Japan
11 Norway
12 Portugal
13 Monaco
14 Greece
15 Iceland
16 Luxembourg
17 Netherlands
18 United Kingdom
19 Ireland
20 Switzerland
21 Belgium
22 Colombia
23 Sweden
24 Cyprus
25 Germany
26 Saudi Arabia
27 United Arab Emirates
28 Israel
29 Morocco
30 Canada
31 Finland
32 Australia
33 Chile
34 Denmark
35 Dominica
36 Costa Rica

Are you shocked? You should be. The life expectancy of Americans falls well below that of the countries on this list.

In France, for example, you get paid for any sick day that you take. You are able to receive assistance from the government in the form of a part time nanny if you have an infant. You get a free education (up through and including college). It is absolutely astounding to this American what other countries have that we do NOT.

We are the only country in the WORLD that runs healthcare like we do. We do not take care of our homeless and elderly, and if they do receive healthcare, when they are discharged, they are dumped on the streets if they have no where to go.

I’m not going to run down the entire list of atrocities here, but I urge you to see this movie. It is on sale at Amazon for $5.99, so please watch it and share it with your friends. Is it sensationalism? No….it’s the flat out truth. I sat and sobbed after I watched this movie. It is disheartening. After my relatives are gone in this country, I am out of here, to move abroad. We’ll sell the house and leave.  I will not continue to remain in this country and be treated this way.

How to Deal With Being Laid Off

Well, it happened.

On January 21st, the hatchet fell and I was under it. I was laid off from a good paying job at a place that took me four years to get back into from my internship in 2004. Drats!

So I’ve kinda been in a funk lately. It seems (at least to me) that when you are without a job, that your mind goes into the mental funk. It thinks that it is the reason this happened, even if it didn’t, and you feel some sort of guilt and embarrassment that it occurred. At least that’s how it is for me. I feel embarrassed, like I had something to do with this, even though I did not.

Most of my Twitterpeeps have said that this is a sign for me to get my productivity and organization consulting really rolling. I’ve posted some advertisements for this locally and gotten responses, but haven’t booked any clients. I have had meetings and exchanged emails, but nothing has come to fruition. One person that I had a meeting with told me that he could only hire me if I cut my rates 66%! That was insulting to me. I know that the economy is rough (believe me, I know), but to ask someone to cut their rates by 66% is quite a bit. I had already discounted my rates by 33%, because I knew that this person really needed my assistance. I could not cut them even further. I have respect for myself and know what I can accomplish has value.

I’ve been exploring avenues on how to advertise myself and my services, and I know that word of mouth is a great way to go. So I’m putting this out to my readership. I’m asking for your help. There are two ways that you can help, and I’d be honored if you’d do one or both.

If this blog has helped you in any way, I would appreciate having a testimonial from you. Be it short or long, I’d like any testimonial that you can give. It can be anonymous, or you can use a pen name: whatever you prefer. But if you could provide me with a testimonial, I’d be grateful. I want to put together a testimonial page for my blog, so that future clients can see what I’ve done to assist others.

There is another way that you can assist, too. I’ve created a flyer to advertise my services. As I can work internationally via phone and Skype, I can assist anyone, anywhere. If you have the inclination to do so, please take this flyer and post it on your own site. Or better yet, print out a few copies and leave them in public places: your work (as long as this is acceptable), grocery store bulletin boards, community bulletin boards, or anywhere public that you feel it will get noticed.

I really want to make a go of this, and the best way that I know of is through you, my readership. Please submit testimonials to blog@freshfocus.info and you can download the flyer below.
