Day One at the new job

I just wrote a letter to my recruiter, and instead of doing a post about my first day, hopefully this letter that I wrote will suffice.

Hi ……..

I really don’t know what to say.

I started today looking forward to my new position and being back at an old friend that I love. But I was a bit taken aback at my surroundings.

I knew when I interviewed that this was an older building – not like Bldg XX whatsoever. I didn’t have any problem with that at all.

When I went in today and was taken to my cubicle, I was surprised at what I saw.

I have two tables pushed perpendicular to one another in a corner. I do not have a desk, I do not have any drawers, pencil or otherwise. I have one overheard storage container for storage. I do have two windows. The wall under one of my windows is black from grime – the tile itself is supposed to be tan. My cubicle was full of drawings, several boxes, manuals, phone books, etc. My tables were black with grime and had beverage rings from either coffee or wet pop cans.

I’m no primadonna, whatsoever. I’m really not. I am a hard working woman who loves what she does. But I was surprised at the condition of this cubicle……..I really was. I spent a fair amount of time today cleaning, emptying, and taking in my belongings.

My supervisor is really nice, but I think that he is really busy and doesn’t have much time for anything but what he needs to do.

I’m not giving up – but I want you to be aware of this and tell you my first impression. My supervisor is really nice – but my cubicle wasn’t.

Just an FYI – I’m not giving up or anything like that. Just wanted you to know.

And I have no computer – IT won’t have a log in ready for me until at least Wednesday. If I remember correctly, my phone number is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Talk to you soon.

Kris

I’m a bit disenchanted at the moment. My hopes and expectation were set a bit higher seeing as I am going into a position that is a promotion for me, and an increase of 1/3 of my previous salary.

Today was disappointing – but I’m not giving up. Anyone have any drawers to spare?
