I don’t want to have to do this but I may……..

My mother in law came in to visit us from Colorado on the 29th of July. Last Thursday, my SO called home for the daily check on her and found her to be slurring her words and on the kitchen floor unable to get up. I rushed home from work (because I am closest) and called an ambulance immediately. She had a stroke.

Yesterday the doctors decided to intubate her and put her on a ventilator because she wasn’t “protecting her airways”. They sedated her and she was breathing on a ventilator.

Today they are weaning her off the ventilator and stopped the sedative, but she hasn’t awakened. The sedative is such a light one that she should have been awake in minutes. They also took another CAT scan yesterday and discovered that the stroke clot is growing.

I may need to take a break from blogging for a sort bit. My SO is absolutely ragged and emotionally raw, and so am I. We hate to see Mom go through this as she is such a vibrant and sassy woman. I really don’t want to take a break, but it may be a necessity.

Any healers, religious folks or just friends (as you all are my online family), please send prayers, angels, healing thoughts, long distance reiki, or whatever medium that you believe in. She is at a touch and go point right now until the clot can dissolve on it’s own.

This is so hard.

Meeting Stephen Hopson from Adversity University

My SO and I had the distinct pleasure of having a great dinner and even better conversation with Stephen Hopson last night.

Stephen is once of the nicest, sincere, and driven individuals I have met. Overcoming the adversity in his life has given him a strong focus on the path he is to walk as well as trying to share it with others.

I urge you to head on over to Adversity University and say Hi to Stephen. You’ll pick up a great deal of poignant information from his posts.

Thanks for dinner, Stephen, and we look forward to chatting again!

Expectations – Disappointments Will Occur, But Move Past Them

Occasionally, I will share a glimpse in the window that is my life. Hopefully the lessons that have come to me, once related to you, will help you throughout your daily life. I can only hope that they will make your journey through this life a better and easier one.
—————————————————-
I switched jobs on March 31, to a corporation at which I had previously interned when I was in college ( I was a late bloomer and didn’t go to college until I was 36). I loved working at this corporation and had been trying to get back in the door since my internship had ended. Out of the blue, I received a call at the beginning of the year about a position that had been brought to me previously, but had never made it to fruition. I eagerly submitted my resume and went through the interview hoopla, and was invited back.

I had two supervisors through my internship: let’s call one Jamey and one Luke. Jamey was a very insecure female that felt as if she needed to justify her position at the corporation and did so frequently. I had a great deal of respect for Luke, and while working there, a group of us would go to lunch on Friday afternoons quite frequently. We had even had lunch a few times once my internship was over. When I knew of my return, I emailed Luke and expressed my excitement at being “back in the fold” and mentioned how I looked forward to our luncheons, as did Luke. Turns out that my current supervisor had checked with Luke and Jamey about me and had received glowing recommendations from both.

I have now been back for three months, and not one invitation for lunch has come my way. Quite the opposite: Luke has taken a tone with me on more than one occasion via email and in person as well. I have had people that I know outside of the corporation take a look at emails that I have received from him to ascertain what tone they pick up, to make sure that I wasn’t over-reacting. People that don’t even know the history or friendship between Luke and I immediately ask why he is speaking that way to me and what is going on.

An answer eludes me. I have no idea. When I worked there previously, I was a  subordinate to Luke: now I am an equal. I am in a supervisory position in change of Data Management for an entire division. For the life of me I can’t figure out if this is threatening to him, or what the situation is. I always held Luke in a place of very high regard both on his skills and professionalism. However, to receive this treatment from him shattered me, because I expected him to be as he was before and for our friendship to flourish once again.

Every time that I detect a tone from him in voice or type, I cringe. But I now realize that it is not my issue with which to deal: Luke has had something occur that has made him act this way and it hasn’t been me: I have no involvement whatsoever with his position in the corporation. So a lesson learned for me is this: you can Expect things to be, but when they aren’t, realize that it’s got nothing to do with you and move on. Don’t dwell on it, but process, realize and let it go.
