31. I consistently clear out my email inbox to 0 every day by 5pm.
Work:
When I come into work in the mornings, the first thing that I do is check email, as I’m sure that is most peoples’ habit. While this may not jive with the GTD theories out there, for me, it is a necessity. I wear many hats at my job, and one of those is light IT support for engineers as well as application troublehshooting. Engineers work around the clock, so it is necessary for me to check my email when I arrive to work in order to see if there are help tickets for me to process. Throughout the day, I check my email frequently. When new mail arrives, I have a desktop alert set up that allows me to preview the message. At a glance, I can tell if I need to stop what I”m doing and reply to that email, or if it can wait until later. By the end of the day, I ahve filed my mail. My mail filing is simple: I have an @Waiting and @Processed folders. Emails go in one of the two. Outlook 2007 has such a better search feature than other OL version that I do not need to categorize my emails into separate folders for separate people of tasks. I used to have
