Monoply with Google – should we be worried?

Welcome back!

Amy Webb is tracking all the acquisitions made by Internet giants like
Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft and AOL. No wonder, the red block
corresponding to Google occupies the maximum estate.

Here is the hi res pdf version for download – thanks to Digital Inspirations for this item!

Counter for a site’s Google Reader Subscribers – Firefox Greasemonkey Script

Google Reader Subscribers Count is a discreet Greasemonkey script that shows the number of Google subscribers
to a site’s feeds. The number is overlayed at the bottom of each page
that has feeds and it’s one of the ways you can measure the popularity
of a site. If you click on the number, you can subscribe to the feed.

As usually, the script requires Firefox and the Greasemonkey extension, although it could also work in other browsers. A related script is Google Reader Subscribe Button,
which shows if you’ve subscribed to a feed and lets you subscribe to it
in Google Reader. It would be interesting to combine the two scripts.

Don’t get your hand slapped by Gmail! Sending quota enforced

Gmail imposes a limit on the attachment size (20 MB) and the overall
storage space (6 GB and growing) but there’s also a daily quote on
sending email. Break the rules and Google will disable you Gmail
account temporarily without any warnings.

So while sending an email message to a large group of friends using
Gmail, read the following rules to avoid temporary shut-down of Gmail:

Rule 1. If you access Gmail via POP or IMAP clients (like Microsoft
Outlook), you can send an email message to a maximum of 100 people at a
time. Cross the limit and your account will be disabled for a day with
the error “550 5.4.5 Daily sending quota exceeded.”

Google Docs Sidebar for Firefox

Google Docs Sidebar for Firefox

google docs sidebarIf you use Google Docs a lot, I found an extension for you that not only
helps you in organization, but also lets you upload and view any
document in the blink of an eye. Apart from being beautifully done, you
can work with added productivity, since you don’t have to have the
Google Docs tab open, or visit the page at all. Just open the sidebar
and click on any item you need.

The filtering capabilities are great, you can view files by type,
arranging them by time, date and author, and you can of course search
your docs. The search also looks inside the content, so you should be
able to find anything in seconds.

Another great feature is that the app allows for drag and drop
uploading, making the organization of files a breeze, you can back up
whole folders this way if you want to.

Overall I love both the look and feel and the usability of this
Firefox addon. If you use Google Docs take it for a spin, I’m sure
you’ll love it!
