Proud to be an America? You won’t be.
Welcome back!
I don’t know if any of my readers have heard of Michael Moore. You might now him from the movie Fahrenheit 9/11, which discussed the controversy and thoughts surrounding the 9/11 attack on the USA.
He has another movie out and if you live on America, you should see it. If you don’t live in America, you should thank god for where you live.
There is a health care crisis in the United States. We are robbed by our insurance companies and it’s not uncommon for people without insurance to be turned away when seeking medical attention in the US. This movie goes into detail about the USA health care crisis and the alarming death rate of US citizens when compared to the rest of the world. Even the people that have risked their lives to save others get refused healthcare. Our healthcare system is the most crooked in the world.
The US ranks 37th in quality of health care, just above Slovenia. Here is the list of all the countries that rank better than we do:
1 France 2 Italy 3 San Marino 4 Andorra 5 Malta 6 Singapore 7 Spain 8 Oman 9 Austria 10 Japan 11 Norway 12 Portugal 13 Monaco 14 Greece 15 Iceland 16 Luxembourg 17 Netherlands 18 United Kingdom 19 Ireland 20 Switzerland 21 Belgium 22 Colombia 23 Sweden 24 Cyprus 25 Germany 26 Saudi Arabia 27 United Arab Emirates 28 Israel 29 Morocco 30 Canada 31 Finland 32 Australia 33 Chile 34 Denmark 35 Dominica 36 Costa Rica
Are you shocked? You should be. The life expectancy of Americans falls well below that of the countries on this list.
In France, for example, you get paid for any sick day that you take. You are able to receive assistance from the government in the form of a part time nanny if you have an infant. You get a free education (up through and including college). It is absolutely astounding to this American what other countries have that we do NOT.
We are the only country in the WORLD that runs healthcare like we do. We do not take care of our homeless and elderly, and if they do receive healthcare, when they are discharged, they are dumped on the streets if they have no where to go.
I’m not going to run down the entire list of atrocities here, but I urge you to see this movie. It is on sale at Amazon for $5.99, so please watch it and share it with your friends. Is it sensationalism? No….it’s the flat out truth. I sat and sobbed after I watched this movie. It is disheartening. After my relatives are gone in this country, I am out of here, to move abroad. We’ll sell the house and leave. I will not continue to remain in this country and be treated this way.

I think that real sickness is the movement towards socialized medicine in the United States of America. Please read my take on the issue, in my post, Sicko and Socialized Medicine.

I suggest you stop whining and do something about it. The greatest sickness is not accepting responsibility for the well being of yourself and your fellow citizens. Leave the country? Great. We don’t need the likes of you.

I’m starting my own grass roots movement against socialized medicine by asking my students to find an example of successful socialized medicine. I actually give them the list you shared.
Education is always the best argument against socialism.

I couldn’t agree more. What we need is a way, in the USA to organize a HUGE protest so that we can make some “change” in the in which we are cared. I know the gov’t isn’t going to address the issue, but neither will the people due to the fear they have of their own gov’t.
In other countries, the gov’t is afraid of their people and the protest that they will hold when they are unhappy. We should be the same way.
Thanks for you comments and nice to see you here!

It doesn’t surprise me that we rank as far down as we do in the list. Healthcare in the US doesn’t focus on preventative care, or teaching children about a healthy lifestyle. It focuses on pushing whatever pharmaceuticals it can to mask the symptoms of problems we develop due to bad diet, stress and lack of exercise. We start kids off on the wrong path by feeding them crap in the lunchrooms at public schools to go with their full sugar soda. Jobs would prefer you to come in covered in germs on your last leg instead of taking the day off sick and paying you for it (although a limited amount of sick days is somewhat reasonable considering all the people that abuse the policies and play hooky). It is a mess.

It is the abuse of the system that hurts us all. I wish that people would just GET that and use it as it’s intended to be used so that we all can benefit. We definitely don’t focus on preventative care at all: moreso insurance companies REFUSE to cover preventatives so that you DO get sick. Being sick is what makes $$$ for pharma as well as insurnace companies. It’s sickening (literally).
Thanks for your comment – nice to see you again!

Yes, I agree, the food we eat and feed our children is a large part of the problem, we don’t exercise enough, our children sit in front of the TV all day instead of being out side. So, in order to start somewhere, we need to start at home. Get ALL the toxic and harmful cleaning products and personal care products out of your homes. Start using healthier safer (and cheaper) products that do not have Free Radical in them. Products that will NOT cause cancer or use Formaldehyde (an embalming agent) in our children and baby shampoos (because they need to “preserve” it.). If your interested in starting from home, check out my website….myworkfromhomebiz.fourpointwellness.com. In the end, the beginning starts with us, the adults, for the future, so why not do something about it!!!

I couldn’t agree more.
In this movie, it shows France having a revolt against their gov’t due to the fact that they were fighting for a better way of living (I forget what the issue was exactly). But a gov’t official who was interviewed said that they fear the citizens revolting, so they do everything that they can to assure that the citizens are taken care of in ways that they (the citizens) deem important.
If ppl in the US would get off their butt and show some chutzpa, we’d be able to get things done with our gov’t too. But we sit back in a pacifistic manner and don’t do anything. One person can’t really exact a change: it takes a collaborative effort.
