No, I am not trying to imitate your mother! But Mom’s sage advice is usually correct.

When you intake a large amount of sugar, your body raises up and rides that “high” wave of sugar. The body uses it in it’s muscles and it gets burned pretty quick. Once it does, the body comes crashing down to earth again, only to be left with more fatigue previous to the sugary snack.

If you want to give yourself a boost (or boosts) throughout the day, eat protein snacks. The protein feeds the body longer than sugar and can level out the insulin levels in the body so that you do not experience the “highs” and “lows”. Another snack to watch out for are snack high in carbohydrates. Carbs turn into sugar, which starts the vicious sugar cycle all over again.

Veggies are a great option for snacks throughout the day. A lot of them are portable, once they are cut up (carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers) and not only do they provide protein, but they are a much more natural way to get the body pumping.

Peanut butter is a great source of protein as well, but due to the recent salmonella outbreak, one has to be very careful when choosing a brand. More healthy alternatives are almond butter, sunflower butter and other nut butters. If’ you’ve not tried of varieties of butters, I suggest that you give them a go! They really are quite tasty and some are healthier than peanut butter.

What are you favorite snacks during the day? Have you noticed any adverse effects form the? Tell me in the comments!

What do think about vending machines in the work place. I am creating an argument for a project that they improve productivity because people tend to focus less on the task on hand if they are hungry. an addition to increasing morale because they are happy to have quick snacks when they are busy.
