Part XVII – GTD Mastery 100
Welcome back!
49. I know the Four-Criteria Model for Choosing Actions in the Moment by heart (p. 192), and actually work that way, or I have found something that works even better.
Let’s review the Four-Criteria model:
1 | Context
This is the core of the GTD model, so I think it would be rather hard to practice GTD without using context. You have to decide what you can do with the tools that you currently have available. By now, we are all familiar with our context and what works best for us. I have a few major ones that I use:
@computer
@phone
@shopping
@home
and various other ones that I use at work.
2 | Time available
This one can play a big part on where you place a particular items that needs completed. Obviously, if you are on your way out the door, or have a meeting scheduled in a few minutes, this will play a deciding factor in where you will place this item in the moment.
3 | Energy available
This one place a big role for me in what time of the day it is. I tend to schedule bigger, more complex projects in the morning, when I’m more fresh. I save the easier ones for the afternoons so that the afternoon files by.
4 | Priority
For me, this one can be the biggest deciding factor when I am faced with a task. If it’s unequivocally something that must get done now, and I can rearrange my time to do so, then it will get done now. If I can’t rearrange my time, I will still see if I can delegate it to still get the task done, but also allow me to do what I currently have to do.
50. I have experimented with GTDGmail or some other productivity enhancing email software, and found what works best for me.
GTDGmail is now know as GTDInbox. I have extolled the virtues of GTDInbox many times. It is a great tool for using your Gmail as a full fledged GTD application. My favorite tool in GTDInbox is the “Compose Personal” tool. This allows you to compose mail to yourself that is saved in your drafts folder. You can use this to store links you want to visit, or shopping lists. It has many uses.
51. I have been using the GTD system for 6 months or more, every day.
I know that I have. How long have you been using GTD? Where are you on your journey with GTD and where do you plan to take it? Tell me: I’d love to know!
